Best Pizza In Waikiki

Nana Lu’s

Nana Lu’s sits tucked away in the far corner of section of restaurants next to the International Marketplace called The Street. In it are a variety of craft restaurants, featuring a variety of international chefs, with numerous healthy options. Thankfully, there is finally a place that serves a proper greasy pizza with thick, crispy crust in Honolulu, at it lies in Nana Lu’s.

Featuring Chef Adam Sobel’s creations, the inspiration came from the food of his youth, and the love in his dishes shows. Featured on the website is a picture of his mother, Nana Lu herself, and their motto- “Soulful, Authentic, Delicious”, is something that i’d say they live up to. The ingredients are fresh, and the service at the counter has always been friendly.

There is a variety of choices in pizza: “Classic Grandma”, made of mozzarella, marinara, and oregano, “White Clam” which includes parsley, parmesan and lemon, “Atomica” red onion, calabrese chilies, mozzarella and mushrooms, “Eggplant” which also includes san marzano tomatoes and basil, Pepperoni which includes cherry peppers, stracciatella and smoked bacon as well as a constantly rotated Pizza of the Day.

The standout pizza is without a doubt their Pepperoni. With a fluffy, soft inside, and a crunchy, crisp outside- the crust is incredible. The cheese and mozzarella flavors compliment each other perfectly with the right amount of tart balance to the flavorful pepperoni.

In addition to the pizza, they have a variety of dishes: Stuffed Sweet Pepper, Giant Meatball, Arancini “Bolognese”, Slow-Cooked Broccoli Rabe, and Hand-Made Cavatelli, and well as a Pasta of the Day.
Fresh salads are also available in a variety of offerings- which is standard fare for many of the restaurants in the trendy “Street”. Spicy Calamari and Cauliflower, Shaved Zucchini and Squash Salad, Heirloom Tomato and Mozzarella Caprese, and Nana’s Ramaine Caesar Salad.
Their solo desert offering is the cannoli, and while tasty, the light cream dessert was good yet not as noteworthy as their pizza’s.

Although a bit pricey for a single slice of pizza at $8, the large piece is divided into three slices, almost a personal pan pizza worth in size. All in all, a great pizza place for a quick bite that is fresh and tasty.
