Nu’uanu Pali

Where water, land, and sky collide in perfect harmony, the Hawaiian Islands come to life in vibrant form. As dynamic as they are breathtaking, this archipelago has long been pursued by travelers in the name of everything from surfing and shopping to dining, hiking, beach-going and beyond. There’s something endlessly intriguing about the landscape which offers up a plethora of canyons, volcanos, jungles, and shoreline. While there’s much to do, see and explore, part of the beauty of a trip to Hawaii lies in the discovery of views that are truly one of a kind. When you’re here and in search of a sweeping vista that’s sure to inspire, make your way to Nu’uanu Pali Lookout.

Soaring Heights and Inspiring Sights at the Nuuanu Pali Lookout

Located on the windward cliff in Nu’uanu Valley at Ko’olau Mountain, the Nu’uanu Pali lookout is a place where visions one had of Hawaii only in dreams come to life before their very eyes. This scenic destination has a reputation for being one of the most spectacular on all of Oahu with good reason. No more than a 5-mile drive from downtown Honolulu, a visit to Nu’uanu Pali comes with the unique sensation of visiting somewhere a world away while maintaining convenient access to major city centers.

Those arriving with a vehicle will need to pay a $3 before making their way up the Pali Highway. You know you’re on track for something amazing as the trees grow denser and taller on either side of the road. As elevation increases, remnants of the city fall away, and the sky-high beauty of a mountaintop view comes to light. Nu’uanu Pali lookout sits over 1,000-feet above the shoreline and includes a stone terrace from which to take in the sights below. On a semi-cloudy day, the contrast between the haze, rocks, trees and panoramic take on the sea can be truly staggering. While the view is bound to amaze every visitor, those that arrive with a heart for history will be enthralled by the fact that they are setting foot on the site of the Battle of Nuuanu. It was here in 1795 that Oahu was officially united under the rule of King Kamehameha the first.
